ECO FRIENDLY TATTOO : you can. you have to.

today I am going to tell you the story of how I became an eco friendly tattooist
and what that means

I will tell you why it is a good thing for you as well, not just for me and my depression
and not even just for the whole world

“world induced depression” is something that occurs within me on a regular basis now

I really can’t stand the way the world is working and where it is going
I can’t stand violence and I can’t stand the exploitation of the resources, nature and even humans

basically I fall into depression because the world is disgusting

I even went to the psychologist
and she understandably tried to tell me that I should concentrate on smaller problems, on problems that are close to me and on which I can therefore have an impact, that I can somehow try to resolve

not even Buddha managed to save the world, how could I?

we should just try to be nicer people to feel better and try to think about our own business

and I started to practice yoga and concentrate on me and on freeing my mind

what happened then?
I moved on top of a remote small hill that not even Google Maps can find

. so I can’t see the world .
I have it in small doses that are well diluted, I have it in small pills
I choose the people that are allowed to enter my remote world
and I try to have a greener and greener lifestyle

to be eco friendly
bio sustainable
at low environmental impact
cruelty free
and so on

and you know, my job is a basic part of my life
it is the biggest part of it to tell the truth
and so inevitably and obviously I have changed and I am still changing my life style trying to follow greener way of life

being an eco friendly tattooist, what does it mean?
it is simple:

it is little but not nothing

little is what a single person can do to improve the world
it is little but not nothing
and if everybody did a little, we would have a great result

Sara, what do you mean when you say being eco friendly?

And when you talk about bio sustainable architecture?
Or low environmental impact?
Or cruelty free?

I have put the link in every word with the blessed explanations given by Wikipedia, but in a nutshell
eco friendly is a circular view of life all together – therefore of jobs too

ah ok, it is all clear with me now Sara…

“circular” means that nothing is created and nothing is destroyed
it means that everything we need originates from nature and should therefore be the most natural thing and after our use it should go back to nature with the smallest waste and the smallest negative impact on nature

even an earthworm produces waste that is useful to the world
the fertilizer for the soil even trees produce waste that are useful for the world, the oxygen
even fish eat the polluted things in the sea and produce waste that is useful for the world, cleaning the water

everything in nature eats something that is the result of somebody else’s waste and produces waste that is in its turn the food of somebody else

. but not us humans .

us humans are deleterious
we spoil every type of resource and we produce waste that nobody can use, actually they become a burden for the world
until the burden gets too heavy

being eco friendly means trying to spoil the resources that we have in a more responsible way
it means using the resources that are naturally available
it means spoiling them as least as we possibly can
and produce the least possible waste

and what does eco friendly tattoo mean?

it means implementing these principles to the world of tattoos ^_^
that’s easy Sara, I didn’t think about that!!
let’s see together what I thought to do in order to live and work according to an eco friendly life style

that’s easy Sara, I didn’t think about that!!

let’s see together what I thought to do in order to live and work according to an eco friendly life style

first:

I created my studio inside a bio sustainable structure

“Sara, you always use these f……kin expressions…”

first of all, a bio sustainable structure is built using its position in the environment for your own benefits, using sensibly the shape of the environment and the sun, in order to save energies and use the natural ones

(a stupid example? Designing your house with the bedrooms in the north side that is notoriously the darkest and coolest part and putting the kitchen and the living room in the south side since they are the places that are more lived during the daylight and need therefore to be warm and bright)

a bio built structure is built only with recycled and recyclable, naturalbiodegradable material and is therefore a sustainable structure for nature, it is not a burden

my tattoo studio has been built with bricks and hay, wood and bio lime
no PVC, no reinforced concrete, no artificially created products

these two things alone put our life more in harmony with the environment and this can only be translated in one word >>> RELAX, baby

in order to use more sensibly our resources and have the lowest environmental impact, the heating system is mainly connected to the fireplace and to our own wood; moreover it relies on a floor heating system that is in its turn fuelled by solar panels, same for the sink and shower water

and there is a tank system to recycle the rain water

the furniture as well is mostly made with natural or recycled material
(actually lots of them are recycled from my grandmas’ houses hahahah)

. working in a bio sustainable piece building is a great thing already .

“the foot feels like a foot when it touches the ground, Buddha used to say”

bio sustainable is when human beings are more in harmony with nature and when these structures are
empty and abandoned they will be reabsorbed little by little by the ground in a very natural way and
they will be a resource for the earth

. reinforced concrete is not .

it is not in harmony with human beings or with the ground

anyway, you can work and live in a eco friendly way even if you don’t live or work in a bio sustainable

building structure

the concept is always the same: it is little but not nothing
or like my grandma used to say: “rather than nothing I choose the rather”

so, even if we don’t have at our disposal a bio sustainable building structure we can modify our habits
towards a green lifestyle. And this is something great itself

so Sara, what do we do to achieve this?!?

produce less rubbish and spoil fewer resources

as you well know, when you have a tattoo done, everything must be covered in plastic because of the sanitary risk and most of the material used is disposable. This means that it will never be an environmental zero impact activity but we can do something to sensibly lower the impact ^_^

in order to use less plastic:

> I banned plastic glasses used for distilled water that I use when I give tattoos. Now I use paper bio degradable glasses

> I purify tap water– that on the hills is quite good already – rather than buying water in plastic bottles

> I changed the packaging of my GIFT BOX; I got rid of the plastic and I replaced it with paper packaging – possibly recycled – or cotton one

>
I produce distilled water
myself so I avoid buying big and heavy plastic containers that normally contain it

>I only use paper tape and not the plastic transparent one

in order to save paper:

>
I created a digital system of acquisition and filing the agreement papers, so I won’t print them anymore

>I draw digitally on the Ipad, so that I can print only one image for a tattoo, the right one, already modified in every detail and of the right size

>In the toilets I got rid of the paper to dry the hands and I replaced them with small and reusable hand towelsthat can be washed and sterilized in the washing machine

>  It comes without saying that I always use recycled paper ^_^

furthermore:

>
rather than using sprays to disinfect the air (that are responsible for the hole in the ozone) I purify the air by burning natural disinfectants like the incense of the tree of the saint pole or the white sage

> all the products for the hygiene and the cleaning of the place are biologically chosen and have a low environmental impact > at the supermarket they are the ones with the green leaf and the green packaging ^_^tutti i prodotti per  l’igiene e la pulizia dei locali li scegliamo biologici e a basso impatto ambientale > al supermercato sono quelli con la fogliolina verde e tutto il packaging green ^_^

> my tattoos are totally vegan and so are all the material I use when I give tattoos that means that all the material is natural and cruelty free – without violent and vicious attitude

(and without tests on animals, that is not the topic of this article but it is always a great thing)

This a complex and hard topic that had to be dealt with in a further article that you can find here: VEGAN TATTOOS, but are they for real?!

in the meantime:

in my daily life I also try to use the resources that the world naturally puts at our disposal and that would become a burden for nature if we didn’t help to use them

that means that I am vegan and I only eat fruit and vegetables

I grow my own fruit trees and vegetables in a very natural way, without pesticides and hormones
I pick up herbs and wild mushrooms when I go for walks on the hills
I cook in a natural way and I try to avoid artificial products that are manufactured in industries

but these are just my own ideas…
there could be many others, millions probably, so let me know what you think about this topic please

any idea can improve the world
even my depression and your experience among the rooms of my studio
the eco friendly lifestyle never finishes, it can only improve ^_^
